Washington: The Biden Administration is determined to take Eric Garcetti As the US envoy in New Delhi, the white House hoping that executive committee Will confirm my enrollment soon.
Garcetti, 51, has been the mayor of Los Angeles since 2013. he is a close associate of the president Joe Biden,
“India is a very important relationship that we have. You saw President (Biden) meeting and greeting Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi last week when he was in Bali. So clearly, it’s an important relationship that we really respect,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters here on Monday.
He expressed confidence that the presidential nominee for US Ambassador to India Garcetti will be confirmed by the Senate soon. The nomination is pending before the upper house of the US Congress for more than a year.
“As for Mayor Garcetti, we are committed to getting him through the process. We are continuing to talk to the Senate to make this happen. That is our priority,” Jean-Pierre said.
In July 2021, US President Biden nominated Mayor Garcetti of Los Angeles as his ambassador to India.
But Garcetti’s Senate confirmation has been pending for more than a year. His nomination was initially blocked by Republican Senator Chuck Grassley due to allegations of inappropriate behavior by one of his senior staffers.
Although the moratorium on his nomination has been lifted, ruling Democrats are reluctant to bring his nomination before the full Senate for confirmation because they feel they do not have enough votes for it.
Earlier this month, the White House expressed confidence that Garcetti would be confirmed by the Senate.
